So, your wondering, get this one or the 40th anniversary box set. Also, so the "Live" disc's don't sound really great. Well, I have had this box set for some time and it's pretty good. Sure the bonus tracks are on the newer box set but I got all those CD's at a great discount and not bothering to get the 40th ann version, why buy them over, this has them, sure you miss the remaster bonus tracks but this one gives you all the albums released as well as early tracks (that don't seem to appear on the 40th box). they never did on vinyl and personally CCR was not a great "Live" band in my opinion where as John solo is great "Live". I grew up listening to these guys along with The Guess Who and Three Dog Night in which I probably listened to more CCR then the other two bands so, I really recommend buyers to get this one, for me it was a no brainer but already owning the recent remasters, I will not bother getting the 40th ann box, also the price will be better on this one ;-) so what are you waiting for, get this one, you'll be glad you did.Visit my mini website sometime and say "Hi" Google it "Judemac Forever"
The six CD set is well presented, though the earlier numbers specially from the Golliwogs etc., one Disc one do not compare well with the later numbers on the iscs. Guess CCR were too raw when these numbers were recorded. Otherwise a classic CCR set to be enjoyed.
Sure brings back a lot of memories. Some of the greatest music/musicians of all time. Several songs I'd forgotten about. Good price, fast shipping. A++
I bought this as gold box deal and I couldn't be more pleased. I'm a huge CCR and this boxed set is great. It had the classics that I love and some that I had not heard. It would be a great addition to any CCR fans collection.
I think pricewise, the casual fan is going to get "Green River", "Cosmo's Factory" and "Willy and the Poor Boys", or the 2 Chronicles, all of which are great. But this collection is where you can hear them developing from a garage rock band with the style of the day into something that sounds nothing like their Bay Area peers except the "jams" and feedback, there's one or two on the first CD that have been part of the Nuggets box set. The last 2 discs are mostly live, but you can tell the difference between when they were a quartet vs playing as a three piece. They all have bonus cuts, most of which are on the box set. I would get this, because with Fogerty part of the label again and having not rereleased "Mardi Gras", it's possible this one could wind up out of print. I know that since this release, John Fogerty has rejoined Concord/Fantasy, so he's put out a collection of CCR and solo songs ("The Long Road Home" which is great if you like "Centerfield" and "Blue Moon Swamp", one I'd get for newbies who want to see him live, and gives you a taste of him involved in the 40th anniv. The individual rereleases exclude "Mardi Gras" even though there are some great songs on there. From the second disc on the songs are familiar and covers all the albums.
remasters)I recently got this because the price came down, and is a fairly complete collection of their music. If you happen to get the Woodstock CD box set, you'll find 99 1/2, Commotion, I Put A Spell On You, and Green River, which to me would've been a nice addition but worth having in its own right (not sure if there's any CCR footage from Woodstock though). The booklet is a nice, lengthy read that talks about the history of the band with some early pics of the band starting out and some memorabilia in there as well.
